Perspectives: Sam’s Perspective – Spooky

I don’t know if any of us are ready but we are officially into the holidays and right smack, dab in the middle of what should be an enjoyable period, there is going to be an election. It seems to me this election is almost an extension of Halloween.  Not only are some scary individuals running for office, there are also some issues on the ballot that are putting my hair on end.  Add to that the trend of clown sightings all across the country, and some of those have turned out to be dangerous too.  Candidates for office are well known to employ fear to get your vote.  Some will say or do just about anything to get the job and in many cases, it works.

All because of lobbyists, consultants, spin doctors, advisors and an electorate that’s too lazy to truly investigate various claims coming at us from all directions.  How do we explain that, to our children or the other nations around the world that are watching.  And hate radio and television are helping to fuel the unrest in our nation while claiming to be fair and balanced.  Of course, they aren’t but a lot of folks believe the claims because they want to be spoon fed what they think they should know about the world around them rather than study the candidates or the issues or both.

Also, I’ve noticed the color orange seems to be playing a big role.  Saw a lot of that at the fair this year, and some of those had bumper stickers on their backs.  Scary.  Lot of frustration out there too.  Frustration over political parties that can’t work together for the good of the country.

And lets don’t forget the major parties have no one to blame but themselves.  Anger,… frustration,… fear.  The three step children of the country this day and age.

Now before you say that I’m just as bad as that bunch I’ve already mentioned, let me just point out that there is a chance for all of us to help make a course correction.  How?  Pretty simple. Take a look at those running for office at all levels, especially those that avoid telling you which party they represent.   Figure out why they do that.  Second learn as much as you can about them.

Same thing when it comes to State Questions.  Study them, really take a hard look at them. Ignore what cute little title they’ve been given.  Look at the state question number then investigate both sides of the issue.  Last but not least, go to the trouble to vote.  Don’t whine about how one vote won’t matter all that much or that you’re just too busy. Get off your dead spot and cast your ballot. Otherwise, the three step children of America,… Anger, Frustration and Fear will keep you rooted in ignorance and the day after the election all you will hear is,… “Trick Or Treat”.

And that’s my perspective.
