The author Ambrose Bierce once defined Painting, calling it the art of protecting flat surfaces from the weather, and exposing them to the critic.  When a beginner picks up a brush or grasps a chisel, and seeks expression in color and form, they put themselves on display.  It’s not an easy thing, but it’s important.  Art on the Hill celebrates the artists of Northeastern Oklahoma, many of them the work of high school and college students.
