Perspectives: Sam’s Perspective – The Race

Several months ago I warned you, we were moving into the silly season. That time when the parties trot out various candidates they feel might help them keep their jobs, if the election goes the way they want it to. I’ve been in this business a number of years and I’ve seen elections come and go but to be real honest with you, I’ve never seen what’s passing for candidates this time around. And the events that are being called debates, are anything but debates.

Oh I know, there is a lot of anger in this country right now, and just about all of it is aimed at a do nothing congress that is refusing to even talk to those on the other side of the isle because of their anger at the man in the oval office. Some say race plays a major role others say no, it’s the direction of the country but they don’t offer an alternative.

You and me? Well,…All we get is gridlock, a do nothing Congress standing in the way of progress rather than a body of folks elected to lead. And all the name calling,… its like we’re reliving the 7th grade. Haven’t heard much about the issues though, just a lot of fear mongering. Television networks love it because its what they call, “good television” and rather than do the right thing, they have a made to order, ongoing ‘reality show’. Add to this mess, the fact that there is a whole generation out there believing this is what the founding fathers had in mind, when they gave us the instruction manual to keep this Republic afloat.

Struggling parents are hard pressed to believe there are better days ahead for their children and the country, since those already elected have allowed school budgets to be cut again and again. And for some reason they just keep sending the same old faces back to run things, thinking maybe this time they’ll do a better job. How do you define insanity? It’s when you keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect different results. And our frustrated, tired, overworked and underpaid teachers are left to explain to students how the system is supposed to work. The contrast leaves the students feeling the same thing they felt when Uncle Bob would come up to them after Thanksgiving dinner at Grandma’s house and with a wicked grin say “Pull my finger”. Well, they might have pulled it once, but never again.

The national elections aren’t that far away. My question to you is,.when you vote, are you going to pull Uncle Bob’s finger again or will you remember what happened the last time.

That’s my Perspective.
