Perspectives: Sam’s Perspective – Looking Ahead

The holidays are behind us and her we are in a brand new year.  So, 2018!   What do you suppose we should expect?   Well, if it’s anything like last year, we’ll probably see the bar lowered in several areas.

Over the Christmas break, we watched and in some cases held our breath as the boys and girls in Washington provided enough shock and Texas Two Step to entertain us for years to come. However, I have a feeling this I only the beginning.  Thank goodness for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.   The country should be alright but believe me, we’re going to see more of the same before it’s all over.

Here at home the children in Oklahoma City have been doing the Texas Two Step, but no shock, just the usual business of protecting their jobs.   Will Rogers has been quoted as saying “You might wonder ‘Just when does a campaign really start?’   Well they really start about 15 minutes after the official returns are in from the last election, on about the fifth drink, after the counting is over.”   Rogers said that back in 1932, and it appears to still be true today.

As far as news stories go, talking about the behavior of the people, well there is no shortage of the interesting, the strange, the unusual, the sad and the funny.   We’ll be talking about many of them in the days to come.   Lots of arm waving over there about why we can’t fix the budget.

A new look for specialty license plate designs was announced, and I have a few designs in mind myself, that would just let folks know how the rest of us feel about things.  A week or two ago,  down in McAlester, before any students arrived for the school day, they found a man in a classroom wearing see through hosiery, a loincloth fashioned out of material found in the classroom and a trash bag over his head.  Police said he appeared to be under the influence.

Ya think?  I do believe in the days and weeks to come we will have more than enough to get our attention and who knows . . .  some of it might even be worth talking about.

For now, let’s just ease into 2018 and see what we’re facing.

And that’s my perspective.
