Prespectives: Sam’s Perspective – New State Bird
Hello everyone. 2019 holds a lot of promise of good things to come. But we also have to be ready for the bad as well. Effects from the federal government shutdown are starting to creep into our everyday lives and if something doesn’t change soon, folks in Washington will be officially known in this country and round the world as the ‘gang that can’t shoot straight’.
But we are seeing a lot of change here at home that really doesn’t have anything to do with folks that get paid to do nothing. For example, now days we are all being effected by a new disease, that’s causing us to bring to life an old saying. That disease is ‘orange barrel syndrome’ and the old saying we’re hearing more and more is, ‘you can’t get there from here’. The mess it’s created has also triggered consideration of a change in the status of the state bird. Right now the state bird is the scissor-tailed flycatcher, but with all the orange barrels and construction and the detours, an old bird may soon take its place. We’re seeing it more and more, it’s actually a wave of sorts where you don’t use all your fingers. Tempers are starting to get short but just wait till the summer heat settles in. That bird is gonna fly a lot.
The problem we all face is state road and bridge construction, county road construction and city road construction and repair, all going on at the same time. As a result orange barrels and detours are everywhere, prompting each driver to remember that old saying I mentioned earlier, ‘you can’t get there from here.’
Well, I remember my Grandmother, when faced with some minor inconvenience used to say, ‘This too shall pass’, and she was right. I suppose I could take that approach every time I come to a set of those orange barrels.
I mean, there’s nothing we can do, but live with it. Just keep in mind, we’re all in this together. We’re all facing the same problems that this situation has created and there’s not a thing we can do about it except pay attention and stay alert to the dance of the barrels. And there will be changes as those orange barrels are moved around. Also that bird I mentioned earlier will fly from time to time. Just let it roll off. Stay off your cell phone and turn off the music or hate radio playing in your car. Focus on surviving these inconveniences. You are gonna like the eventual improvements. And above all else, remember, This Too Shall Pass, I promise you.
I’m Sam Jones and that’s my perspective.
