Perspectives: Sam’s Perspective – New License Plates
There has been some talk lately about Oklahoma’s image. A newer flag or symbol to draw attention to the many reasons folks should move here. I’ve been thinking about that and given the direction we seem to be moving, maybe we ought to explore some of the possibilities. One or two of them at least. For example, nothing has been done to take care of the homeless problem so how about a person sleeping on a downtown sidewalk? How would that look on a license plate or flag? No?
Well then, since the governor has launched a war on the Indian tribes how about a cavalry flag, of the sort General George Custer’s outfit carried? Or maybe just crossed sabers.
I read the other day a woman running for the U.S. Senate is saying women in Oklahoma earn 77 cents for every dollar men earn and that, she says, puts Oklahoma at 43rd. in the nation in gender pay. How would we show that on a flag?Oh and don’t forget the gun issue. There’s a move in the legislature to make it o.k. for lawmakers to carry guns in any state building and on the job. Teachers too. That ought to help attract new business, with the slogan, “Bring your business to Oklahoma. Our teachers carry guns.”And the Logan county sheriff says his county is a 2nd. amendment sanctuary and he’s proud of that. Let’s see, a state flag with a gun on it? Or maybe a bulls eye? Or just a bullet. It would make a handsome license plate too, don’t you think?
Just recently state lawmakers exchanged compliments for Valentines’ day then got back to disagreein’ on just about everything, including the Governor’s proposed health care plan. So perhaps that might trigger a flag with a valentine with a band aid.
One more thought, with all the school closings, remaining overcrowded classrooms and low public school teacher pay, maybe a school with a for sale sign flag. That’ll help bring new business.
Now I’ve just touched on a few issues. Didn’t even mention dairy farmer problems in
Oklahoma and for every problem, there is a shot at a new flag or license plate. What do you think? Well sir, truth be told and no reason why it shouldn’t be, some say Oklahoma, love it or leave it, which brings to mind another saying, “My mother, drunk or sober.” So, lets be serious. Yea we have our problems and our issues just like every other state. No real difference. But too, like other states, we also have a lot of folks out there really trying hard to make things better. And if we elect the right ones and support their continued hard work, we’ll come out of this a much better state. And honestly, I think we would all rather see their accomplishments on a flag or license plate, than a gun.
I’m Sam Jones and that’s my Perspective.
