Perspectives: Sam’s Perspective – Another Summer

Hello, I’m Sam Jones.

It’s been an interesting summer, filled with struggle, embarrassment, numerous firings and resignations, charges, convictions and threats to this experiment we know as Democracy. And that’s just Washington politics. Oklahoma has been absolutely no help. Problems from past administrations continue to haunt us and there is no sign solutions are coming.
Across this great land of ours we are headed for the mid-term elections and those trying to get our vote are acting like there is a shortage of tin foil with which to shape their little hats. Oh they say they’ll fight for this or they’ll fight for that but there is no serious mention of the real issues we all face.
While I’m on the subject of fighting for something let me bring up one more thing. There is a monument in Washington named The Wall. On that wall are the names of those who died in the Vietnam War. I’ve seen it and hand to God, it takes your breath away. A few years later someone came up with a smaller version designed to travel across the country, making stops in all the states. The crowds of Americans who saw it were incredible. Then a few years ago a larger version was built and it too began touring. Earlier this year it made a stop on the campus of Rogers State University. My wife and I went to see it at night. I have a friend whose name is on that wall. He’ll forever be 20-years-old. The wall is lit and I took a few pictures that night, using only the lights on the wall. I want to share one with you now and I also want to share a question with you so that the next time some politician says if elected, they’ll fight for some vague something or other and be willing to pay the price. Before I ask the question, take a close look at the picture.
Now the question,You tell me, who in the past, really fought for something and paid the price.
That’s my perspective.
